Mel C and Emma Bunton end row just days before reunion

They were close friends during the height of their fame in iconic pop group the Spice Girls.

But Emma Bunton, 42, and Mel C, 44 reportedly had a row which lasted for several months, before making up just days before the Spice Girls reunion was announced.

The rift is said to have began in March 2017 after Mel made the decision to not join the ill-fated reunion band, GEM, alongside Geri Horner, Emma and Mel B.

Friendship never ends (completely): Mel C and Emma Bunton reportedly healed a long-standing rift just days before the Spice Girls reunion – it was over Mel’s decision to not join  the ill-fated reunion band, GEM, alongside Geri Horner and Mel B

According to The Sun, Emma, otherwise known as Baby Spice, had become upset over Mel’s disinterest in rejoining the rest of the band, creating a tense situation between the two.

A source told the publication: ‘Mel and Emma didn’t speak for months after, which Mel admitted was the longest they had gone without speaking for 20 years.

‘They’ve always been the best friends in the band, but Emma was upset over Mel not wanting to be a part of it when she wanted the reunion so badly.

‘They’ve got things back to how things were before.’ the source continued.

Speaking to Davina McCall on The Nightly show at the time, the singer, whose real name is Melanie Chisholm, drew a line under any reunion speculation, calling the Spice Girls a ‘jigsaw puzzle’.

She said: ‘Whoever’s missing, it doesn’t matter. I think for me Spice girls is like a jigsaw puzzle.

‘It’s different to other bands. Look at Take That – they’re going out as a three piece and they’re brilliant. I love the boys!’

MailOnline has contacted representatives for The Spice Girls for comment.

The news comes as all five of the Spice Girls – including Victoria Beckham – have reportedly ‘signed on the dotted line’ for a limited number of reunion shows in the UK and the US.

According to TMZ, the five-piece are not believed to be taking the concerts outside of the two countries, but their main source of profit will come the Spice Girls merchandise.

Only a few days before, Victoria shot down all hopes of a ‘tour’ telling Vogue defiantly: ‘I’m not going on tour. The girls aren’t going on tour.’

Victoria was in the middle of her Autumn/Winter 2018 presentation at New York Fashion Week and insisted that things were still in the ideas stage, 10 days after the five originals got together in the same room for the first time in six years.

In February the high-profile meeting, which took place at Geri Horner’s Hertfordshire home, confirmed their plans to work again on new projects.

Asked what their plans did involve, Victoria said that ‘there’s something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for,’ leading the five members to brainstorm about potential projects.
