Melbourne blogger Laura Mazza scolded a stranger’s child

A popular mummy blogger has spoken of the controversial decision she made to chastise another mother’s child for hurting her daughter in a play centre.

Laura Mazza, a Melbourne-based mother-of-two, took to Facebook to describe a moment where she warped into a self-confessed ‘helicopter parent’ when her child was being bullied by two other kids.

While supervising a play-date with her son, three, and daughter, one, the 31-year-old told her thousands of fans she found herself reprimanding a stranger’s children – something she claims to have ‘never done before’ in her life.

‘Today I found myself saying the words “hey, that’s not nice… please stop” to two little kids. Kids that weren’t mine,’ Laura wrote on her blog.

‘Why? Because no one else was gonna do it. I watched two five-year-olds ram one of those mini driveable cars into my daughter and laugh while she fell over while I was helping my son into the ball pit.’

Laura begins her post by assuring her fans that she is not normally a ‘helicopter parent’ and admits it is not her responsibility to ‘tell off’ a stranger’s child.

But she confesses after a pivotal moment watching other children blatantly hurt her children, Luca and Sofia, she felt it was her duty to step in.

‘I’ve never liked to tell a strangers kid off, but if you’re gonna pretend you can’t see it because you wanna sit and chat, then I’m gonna tell your child off,’ Laura goes on to say.

‘I’ve never told another child off in my life. I don’t like it. It’s not my responsibility. My responsibility, like I said, is to my child.

If my son snatches, I correct him, if my daughter smacks, I correct her, if my kids are a**holes, I step in. This behaviour is not okay at any age.’

On another occasion Laura says her son was being pushed and smacked by two other children before she scolded them both.

In her candid post, which garnered nearly 4000 likes, Laura also gives universal permission to all other parents to tell off her child if they witness either of them ‘being a jerk’.

‘I’m not perfect, not even in the slightest. But I’m polite and I’m not in the business of raising a**holes,’ she adds.

‘And if you see my kid be a jerk, you tell him off too, or tell me and I’ll correct him asap.

Mothers if we don’t have each others backs like this, then how can it be a smooth experience for all? This is a village and it only works if we all do our part, that way we can all have a good time.’
