Melbourne Cup: Fashionable punters flood Flemington

Fashionable racegoers have started making their way into the famed Flemington Racecourse ahead of the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday afternoon. 

As much a fashion parade as it is a horse race, stylish punters will don their finest fascinators and craftiest creations in a bid to stand out and compete in the sartorial stakes.

And so far they have not disappointed, with eye-popping feathered hats, bright pink stockings, bizarre themed suits and fierce floral get-ups already spotted among the masses settling in trackside.

These fashionable weren’t swayed by the rainy weather and looked immaculate as they posed in their finest racewear in the famed Flemington gardens

One woman embraced red for her get-up, with her ruby dress paired with a lip-inspired clutch and a unique floral headpiece

A man got right into the spirit in a horse-stamped pale blue suit while one woman rocked a forest themed look complete with a feathered ‘grassy’ skirt and enormous fascinator 

More than 100,000 people are expected to descend on Flemington on Tuesday where they will enjoy countless glasses of Champagne, catwalk shows and friendly bets from mid-morning.

The Myer Fashions on the Field competition will also continue and a daily winner will be crowned.

On Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday, the Myer Fashions on the Field Victorian State Winner will be named before competing against the other state finalists for the national title. 

The race that stops the nation will commence at 3pm AEDT.
