Melbourne ‘explosion’: Mystery blast rocks the city’s south-east just before midnight: ‘Dead set sounded like a bomb went off’

A mystery explosion has been heard in Melbourne’s south-east just before midnight on Tuesday.

Numerous people in the area took to social media to report a ‘loud bang’ and a stream of sirens.

At this stage it is not clear what caused the blast or where it originated.

‘Did anyone hear that loud bang in Melbourne’s south-east?’ one local wrote on social media.

Another said: ‘That was some sorta explosion in East Bentleigh! Sirens galore now. Dead set sounded like a bomb went off.’

A third added: ‘Heard something from mine and I’m in McKinnon.. what the hell?’
