A Melbourne high school has been placed in lockdown amid reports of a ‘suspicious person’ lurking in the playground.

Police are searching Thomastown Secondary College about 20km north of the CBD.

Pictures showed officers combing the school buildings and playground, while others showed terrified students hiding under tables.

The suspicious person has not been found. 

A Victoria Police spokesman told Daily Mail Australia: ‘Police are currently at a Thomastown secondary school following reports of a suspicious person on the school grounds.

‘Police have conducted a search of the area but have been unable to locate the person. The search is continuing.’
