Footy legend Billy Slater has thanked teammate Cameron Smith despite the pair’s ongoing feud – but not before acknowledging his sponsors including Australian Bananas.

Slater announced his retirement from the Melbourne Storm and the NRL on Wednesday after 16 years in the league. 

The champion fullback thanked his family and teammates in an emotional press conference, acknowledging team captain and longtime friend Cameron Smith despite the pair’s recent disagreement. 

‘For 16 years I’ve had the pleasure to play in the NRL, but this will be  my last and I’m retiring at season’s end,’ he said.
