Victoria has been smashed by a sudden thunderstorm as heavy rainfall brings flash flooding, storms and chaos on the roads.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning on Thursday morning, forecasting heavy rainfall throughout the day.
It warned the storm cell that moved over Melbourne’s eastern suburbs would bring a trial of destruction as it continued to track to the east.
Flash flooding was observed as the storms moved across Melbourne.
One local took to Twitter to warn: ‘Take care out there if in Melbourne. In the north, we’ve got rain, thunder and lightning at the moment.
‘Looks like an indoor day today,’ she wrote. ‘Looks like it’s coming in waves.’

Another wrote that ‘the rain in Melbourne right now is substantial and a bit scary’.
A third person advised people to ‘be careful on the roads’.
Residents in the Inner East, South East, Outer East and Northern Local Warning Areas should expect heavy rain throughout the day.
The Bureau of Meteorology warned severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Dandenong, Glen Waverley and Ringwood.
‘These thunderstorms are moving towards the east,’ The Bureau said.

‘They are forecast to affect Belgrave, Healesville and Yarra Glen by 9.45am and the area east of Pakenham and the area northeast of Pakenham by 10.15am.
‘Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding is likely.’
More than 20millimetres of rain was recorded at Anakie in the 30 minutes to 7.52am on Thursday.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Central, North Central and parts of the South West and Northern Country districts.
