Melbourne’s Avra Group is the latest Australian construction business to go under as building industry is battered by high costs
A boutique Melbourne construction business has plunged into administration – joining the growing list of building company to go under due to soaring materials prices and staff shortages.
The Avra Group (Aust) Pty Ltd was wound up on July 14 and formally placed into liquidation, Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) records show.
The company, based in Footscray in the city’s inner west, and its staff boasted about surrounding themselves ‘with a team of experts that work’.

The company promoted itself as having a ‘professional approach’ which ‘set it apart from other firms’ and managed clients’ projects from start to finish.
Other building companies to go under this year include Millbrook Homes, in NSW; Bentley Homes, in Victoria and Modoc Residential, based in Perth, WA.
Yet another Avra Group construction site
Porter Davis – the country’s 12th largest builder – collapsed in March.
Several property owners who contracted with Porter Davis have only recently once again started construction.
‘Finally, the long wait is over!’ one customer cheered in a community discussion group at the weekend – as another builder commenced work on their site.
