Melissa Caddick: Anthony Koletti reveals what he REALLY thinks about her ‘cutting off her foot’

The hairdresser husband of notorious Sydney fraudster Melissa Caddick has revealed she is ‘not the kind of person who is going to chop off her foot and go AWOL’.

Notoriously private Anthony Koletti, whom the Daily Mail understands is still unemployed, made his first ever public remarks about one of the leading conspiracy theories about the swindler who vanished from her Dover Heights mansion hours before she was about to be exposed as having ripped off her 72 clients to the tune of $30million.

Mr Koletti’s remarks – broadcast in a promo for a Channel Seven documentary – came as Daily Mail Australia confronted him on the streets of Bondi in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and demanded answers about whether he was paid for the tell-all. The encounter ended with Mr Koletti slamming his car door shut.

Before being exclusively questioned by the Mail, Mr Koletti was seen speaking briefly with detectives from the local police station.

The encounter with the officers appears to have been coincidental, but it is understood the detectives were known to Mr Koletti and have been involved in the investigation into his wife’s disappearance.

The TV show has promised ‘new evidence’ about Caddick’s disappearance will be revealed in an interview on Sunday.

Mr Koletti looks straight into the camera in a promo for the show and says ‘This is the real story about what happened to Melissa Caddick.’

Part of that story is his response to the claim that she ‘chopped off her foot’.

Caddick, a 49-year-old financial advisor, vanished from her Sydney mansion almost a year ago after pocketing millions from investors over the course of about eight years.

Mr Koletti was bombarded with questions on Wednesday when he left the home he used to share with Caddick to get a takeaway coffee at his regular haunt, Heart Cafe in nearby Bondi.

With his interview set to air on Channel 7 at the weekend, Mr Koletti was repeatedly asked about what ‘truth’ is going to come out and if he was paid by the TV station.

But the former DJ stayed quiet, despite earlier talking to the police detectives – slamming the door of his car in frustration.

It is likely there is a clause in his contract with Channel 7 preventing him from talking to any other media before the interview is broadcast.

Mr Koletti, who famously said last Christmas that he had just $1.95 in his bank account, still lives in his wife’s $6.2million mansion almost a year after she vanished owing $30million to defrauded clients, including family and friends.

He tells the Channel 7 program that his wife’s disappearance on November 12 last year left him shocked to the core.

‘I felt it like a lighting bolt through my heart,’ he says.

Caddick’s foot was discovered in a running shoe on a remote beach on the NSW South Coast on February 21, but no other remains of the fugitive have been found.

At the time, the NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said authorities were still unable to say whether she killed herself or if there was foul play involved.

He also raised the outlandish possibility Caddick could have severed her own foot to throw police off the scent – and that she could still be alive.

‘There’s always a chance she cut her foot off and is still alive, though it’s pretty fanciful,’ he told Sydney radio station 2GB.

Mr Fuller was satisfied, though, that the millionaire fraudster was dead.

‘We’re still trying to recover funds [for ripped off investors] and that investigation continues. But we haven’t closed this case,’ he said.

One theory to explain her disappearance has been that Caddick jumped from the Dover Heights clifftops after making the 300m walk from her home.

In his television interview, though, Mr Koletti dismisses the theory that his wife would have mutilated herself to escape justice.

‘She was not the kind of person that’s going to chop off her foot and go AWOL,’ he says.

Today, Mr Koletti slammed his door shut in apparent frustration as he slipped into his vehicle – an old model Audi A3, which is a downgrade from his $300,000 Audi R8 which was seized by receivers last January.

His previous car had distinctive puppy-themed plates, ‘2 PAWS’, which later went back on the market and were advertised for $479 on the NSW Government’s MyPlates website.

The plates were an apparent reference to Mr Koletti and his missing wife’s two pet dogs as well as a nod to his DJ moniker, Paws Off Productions.

Receivers want to sell off Ms Caddick’s properties but until the court orders they be sold, Mr Koletti – who was stripped of his $1700 weekly allowance earlier this year – is free to live the life of a multi-millionaire in a lavish home with breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour.

Ms Caddick was declared dead by police in March after her foot drifted ashore on Bournda Beach on the NSW south coast, but the Federal Court heard arguments earlier this year that her assets should not be sold off by receivers until her death is confirmed by the Coroner.

His dire financial situation has prompted speculation that Seven News may have paid him to appear in a tell-all interview and divulge ‘the truth’ about ‘why she died’ in a special set to air on Sunday night.

‘I can’t keep silent any longer,’ he said in a preview for the show. ‘It’s time for the truth to come out.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Seven with questions about whether Mr Koletti was offered a financial incentive to break his silence.

The former hairdresser has remained notoriously tight-lipped about Caddick throughout the past 11 months, only speaking out once to beg her to ‘come home’ and insist he knew nothing about his wife’s business dealings.
