Depay’s 82nd minute strike meant Lyon qualified at the expense of Zenit Saint Petersburg
With eight minutes remaining the Ligue 1 side looked to be heading out of the competition as they tried in vain to find an equaliser, before Depay’s late intervention.
The winger’s 82nd minute strike completed a stunning comeback and sealed Lyon’s place in the last-16 at the expense of Zenit, who were thrashed 3-0 by Benfica.
However, Depay soon turned from hero to villain as he was involved in an altercation with a Lyon fan after the full-time whistle.

Depay took issue with a fan’s banner, which labelled centre-back Marcelo a ‘donkey’
Amid the celebrations a fan ran down to the touchline and held a flag which labelled Brazilian centre-back Marcelo a ‘donkey’.
Depay attempted to grab the flag from the man, prompting a scuffle, as the Dutchman’s team-mates attempted to calm him down, while more of the club’s Ultras ran down to pitchside.
Supporters were also believed to be unhappy with players for failing to acknowledge their vocal contribution after the game
The result also means Zenit miss out on the Europa League, with Benfica finishing in third place as a result of their better head to head record against the Russian side.
