Men from Turkey and Syria are caught hiding in Nutella lorry after being heard shouting and banging as police arrest driver for ‘helping illegals into UK’

Seven men were caught hiding among pallets of Nutella after ‘banging and shouting’ was heard from inside a lorry.

After emergency services arrived, the men were found sat on 12ft high pallets of the chocolate spread inside a white Scania lorry.

Cambridgeshire Police said they had received a 999 call reporting noises coming from the lorry as it was parked up at Brampton Hut Services on Monday evening.

A photograph released by police shows the men lying on top of the boxes as fire service officers helped to get them out, before being checked over by ambulance workers.

They were taken to the Police Investigation Centre in King’s Lynn, Norfolk and have since been transferred to the immigration service.

The 44-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of facilitating the illegal entry into the UK and has since been bailed to return to the police station next year.

In a statement to MailOnline, Cambridgeshire Police said four of the men were of Turkish nationality, while three were Syrian.

The incident comes just weeks after migrants caused chaos on the motorway after escaping a broken down lorry on the M20.

Eleven suspected migrants – both male and female – were travelling in a lorry but it ground to a halt near junction four, on 14 November.

A bright yellow Peugeot crashed in the process, which was later seen being taken away.

The incident, which caused ‘mayhem’ on the busy Kent Road, ended with the group being found on the hard shoulder and put in a Home Office immigration enforcement facility in Folkestone.

One eye witness said: ‘It was complete chaos.

‘I was driving and saw all these migrants running all over the place.

‘It’s a miracle they didn’t die. How on earth did this happen? It was insane. Where did the lorry come from?’

Another said: ‘They were risking their life in there. They could easily have been run over.

‘God knows how it happened.’

A Kent police spokesperson said: ‘At around 10am on 14 November 2024, officers located 11 suspected migrants on the hard shoulder of the M20 near junction 4.

‘They have all since been transferred to a Home Office immigration enforcement facility in Folkestone.

‘It is reported the migrants had been travelling in a lorry and enquiries are ongoing to locate this vehicle.’
