BERLIN, Feb 26 (Reuters) – Germany’s Christian Democrats (CDU) on Monday approved a coalition deal with the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD), bringing conservative leader Angela Merkel a step closer to a fourth term as chancellor of Europe’s biggest economy.

The CDU conference in Berlin follows Merkel’s announcement of her picks for a new, younger cabinet intended to rejuvenate the party and end disagreements over how to tackle the rise of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD).
