Meryl Streep, 68, has applied to trademark her name

She’s been in business for 43 years and is one of the most respected and honored actresses in Hollywood history.

And on January 22, Meryl Streep, 68, applied to trademark her name.

The star of The Post, Julia & Julia, and Sophie’s Choice filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office requesting that the name Meryl Streep be trademarked for ‘entertainment services,’ movie appearances, speaking engagements and autographs.

Owning it: Meryl Streep has applied to trademark her own name for ‘entertainment services’ after more than 40 years in Hollywood

It is not clear why Streep would file a trademark application at this stage in her career.

Many celebrities trademark their names or catch phrases to protect their intellectual property, stop other people using them without permission, or to earn cash from products bearing their name.

Last week, she broke her own record as she received her 21st Academy Award nomination for her role as publisher Kay Graham in The Post.

Mystery: It is not clear why Streep would file a trademark application at this stage in her career. She has won three Oscars, three Emmys and six Golden Globes during her long career
