Mia Freedman: Mum divides opinion after revealing the haphazard way she loads her dishwasher

Mia Freedman horrifies fans with her ‘gross and traumatising’ dishwasher stacking method: ‘This is upsetting’

  • Mum divided opinion with her dishwasher stacking method
  • Mia Freedman ‘hurls’ dishes and cutlery in ‘willy nilly’
  • People have said she deserves ‘jail’ for her unruly ways

Mia Freedman has split opinion after sharing pictures of the ‘traumatising’ way she fills her dishwasher while her ‘neat and tidy’ husband is away.

The mother-of-three said her husband feels ‘passionately’ about stacking the dishwasher in an orderly fashion, while she prefers to hurl dishes in ‘willy nilly’.

The Mamamia founder’s post was flooded with comments from fans divided over her ‘carefree’ approach to the chore.

‘Honestly this person should be in jail,’ one man said.

‘People who feel passionately about how they should be stacked and those who could not give a single f*ck.’

‘If you, like me, live with the first type of person but are yourself, the second type, you will appreciate how much I have enjoyed being alone in my house for a few days and hurling things willy nilly into my dishwasher.’

Mia said it’s the ‘best holiday’ she has ever had.

She shared pictures of her haphazard stacking method that showed a collection of mugs, plates and glasses bizarrely placed in the top and bottom rack with no apparent order.

She had also strewn forks and spoons across the cutlery rack without putting it neatly into the slots.

‘Dishwasher anarchy is a vibe,’ she joked.

Five things CHOICE’s dishwasher expert would never do

CHOICE whitegoods expert Ashley Iredale knows how to treat a dishwasher right to get the best results and keep it running happily.  But sometimes it’s the things you don’t do that can make the biggest difference – to both your dishwasher and what you wash in it.

1. He never puts the dishwasher tablet in the detergent dispenser

2. He never pre-rinses the dishes

3. He doesn’t put good knives in the dishwasher

4. He never runs the dishwasher if it’s not completely full

5. He doesn’t close the dishwasher door in between washes

The controversial pictures caused outrage among many viewers.

‘Your post has absolutely done my head in,’ one woman said,

‘That picture of all the randomly placed mugs is giving me anxiety,’ another agreed.

‘I didn’t think I was the first type until I saw the pictures attached. Chills down my spine,’ another wrote.

However, many people admitted they love to fill the dishwasher with the same ‘wild abandon’.

‘Love it! I figure as long as it is in the dishwasher somewhere with the door closed, it will come out clean,’ one woman said.

‘I am so with you. Hurl them willy nilly into the dishwasher and push go! But no, I live with the former type. So I happily relinquish dish duty to him,’ another agreed.

‘I describe my dishwasher packing style as strategically random,’ another wrote.

A Sydney-based cleaning enthusiast and mum previously shared a step-by-step tutorial to teach her followers the correct way to fill a dishwasher.

Sidrah Hammad said you shouldn’t rinse dishes, instead scrape leftover food off before putting them in the machine.

The mum-of-two advised her followers to make sure all of the dishes are facing the centre of the machine so they are properly washed.

Pots and pans always go on the bottom rack facing downwards, if bowls are on the top rack they should also face downwards.

She said glasses should be placed on the top rack and cutlery should face opposite directions.

Her final tip was to ensure the tablet compartment is dry to prevent the tablet sticking.

How to correctly fill a dishwasher:

1. Rather than rinsing, scrape leftover food off dishes before putting them in the machine.

2. Make sure all of the dishes are facing the centre of the machine so they are properly washed.

3. Pots and pans always go on the bottom rack facing downwards, if bowls are on the top rack they should also face downwards.

4. Gasses should be placed on the top rack and cutlery should face opposite directions.

5. Ensure the tablet compartment is dry to prevent the tablet sticking.
