Former Manchester City defender Micah Richard has heaped praise on Newcastle’s Allan Saint-Maximin after the forward’s stellar display against the Premier League champions this afternoon.
The Frenchman provided two assists as Newcastle raced into a 3-1 lead at St. James’ Park, before eventually being pegged back by City and drawing the game 3-3.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Richards described Saint-Maximin as ‘class,’ explaining ‘Newcastle have a right player on their hands’ as they continue to build under new ownership.

‘He gets on the ball and turns and goes so quick,’ said Richards. ‘Man City didn’t know what to do.
‘I’m glad he did it in a massive game. Seeing him live, driving… he’s been class today.’
Saint-Maximin was up against City full-back Kyle Walker for the majority of the game, causing the 32-year-old plenty of trouble throughout in a duel that pitted pace against pace.
Saint-Maximin showed good feet to cross for Miguel Almiron to poke home Newcastle’s equaliser before getting the better of John Stones to feed Callum Wilson to put his team ahead.

‘Kyle Walker is absolutely rapid, and sometimes they got caught up the pitch,’ Richards added.
‘A lot of the one-on-ones were against Stones. He kept going and going and going. His decision making was a lot better today. He was a thorn in Man City’s side.
‘It was the best I’ve ever seen him play. Trippier was telling him how good he is, and he has to believe it. Newcastle have a right player on their hands.’

Full-back Trippier was seen by a Sky Sports reporter speaking to Saint-Maximin on their way to complete media duties.
When asked what he was saying to his team-mate, Trippier said he told him to produce similar levels every week.
It was a comment former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given, who was also working on the game as a pundit, echoed.
‘[Saint]-Maximin is a fantastic player,’ said Given. ‘That’s the level he has to hit every week.’
