Michael Douglas marks three years since death of movie star father Kirk Douglas

Michael Douglas marked three years since the death of his movie star father Kirk Douglas on Instagram this week.

Kirk, one of the reigning icons of Old Hollywood, lived to the grand old age of 103 before his death in February 2020.

He is buried beside his second wife Anne Buydens in Westwood, California.

That is where 78-year-old Michael was seen in a new video posted an Instagram.

The star was seen sitting by himself on a stone bench by his Kirk and Anne’s joint grave as he brought white flowers.

‘What an extraordinary couple they were,’ said Michael, his voice filled with emotion.

The husband of 53-year-old Chicago movie star Catherine Zeta-Jones then added, ‘I miss them both so much.’

Tragically, Kirk and Anna’s tombstone also marks the resting place of their son Eric, who battled substance abuse problems for years.

He died of an accidental overdose in 2004 at the age of just 46.

Before his relationship with Anne, Kirk was married to the actress Diana Dill, with whom he welcomed Michael in 1944.

Michael used his latest post to plug The Douglas Archive.

That is an online collection of material such as pictures, press clippings and letters documenting Kirk and Anne’s activities across movies, politics and philanthropy.

The archive comes under the aegis of the Douglas Foundation, the charity that Kirk and Anne co-founded in 1964.

Its website says the outfit ‘partners with organizations committed to providing more equitable access to education, healthcare, and the arts.’

The official mission statement adds: ‘Guided by the charitable goals of its founders, Anne and Kirk Douglas, the Foundation is particularly focused on improving the lives of children and women in California.’

In recent years Kirk Douglas’ legacy has come under scrutiny over allegations that he raped Natalie Wood when she was just a teenager.

The claim was leveled by Natalie’s own sister Lana Wood in her book Little Sister: My Investigation Into The Mysterious Death Of Natalie Wood.

With publicity swirling around the accusation in late 2021, Michael put out a statement through a publicist saying simply: ‘May they both rest in peace.’

This comes after Michael turned the premiere of his latest Ant-Man movie into a family affair on Sunday.

The two-time Oscar winner took along his glamorous wife  Zeta-Jones and his son Dylan to the star-studded red carpet for the LA screening of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Zeta-Jones made sure all eyes were on her in a dramatic black and gold gown was short in the front revealing her tall black stiletto high heels.

The couple’s 22-year-old son joined in the fun too, tagging along with his famous parents for the night.

Michael proudly wrapped his arm around his son while holding his wife’s hand tightly on the red carpet.

Zeta-Jones and Douglas married back in 2000. Douglas and Zeta-Jones share Dylan and their 19-year-old daughter Carys.

Dylan recently graduated from Brown University last year while his sister is also in college though it’s unclear where.

Michael also has a son from his previous relationship with Diandra Luker named Cameron.

A number of the film’s other stars including Paul Rudd, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton and Jonathan Majors also attended the event.

The third standalone Ant-Man film centers around Rudd’s Scott Lang as he and his compatriots as they explore the Quantum Realm, a place ‘where they interact with strange creatures and embark on an adventure that goes beyond the limits of what they thought was possible,’ according to the film’s IMDb page.

Douglas is reprising his role as Dr. Hank Pym which he first played in the 2015 movie Ant-Man as well as in the second Ant-Man and Avengers: Endgame.

The Fatal Attraction star has a couple more projects coming out soon as well where he will play a pair of well-known Americans.

In one series titled Reagan & Gorbachev, Douglas will play former President of the United States Ronald Reagan.
