Michael Schumacher’s son Mick spotted in Australia ahead of the Grand Prix

Michael Schumacher’s son Mick seen in Australia ahead of the Grand Prix – after claims his mother Corinna has been ‘like a prisoner’ for the last 10 years looking after his injured father

Mick Schumacher may have lost his chance to drive in the Australian Grand Prix with Haas, but he will still attend as a reserve driver for Mercedes.

The German race car driver, 24, who is the son of Formula One legend Michael Schumacher, was seen spending time in the country with fellow driver Jack Doohan.

Doohan, 20, who is the reserve driver for Alpine, posted a picture of the pair on Instagram on Monday ahead of the first GP race on Thursday.

As Doohan suited up and sat on a track in his F1 kart, Schumacher stood with his foot resting on the wheel with the caption reading: ‘Aussie land.’

Wearing a white shirt beneath his driving suit, he had the protective garment pulled down to his waist as he let the sleeves hang freely.

Schumacher was replaced at Haas by Nico Hülkenberg at the end of his 2022 season following two seasons of poor performance.

He is now travelling with the Mercedes team to improve his skills and act as a reserve driver to replace either George Russell or Lewis Hamilton if required.

It comes after Eddie Jordon claimed Schumacher’s mother Corinna has lived ‘like a prisoner’ for the last 10 years, shunning lunches and parties, to keep her husband’s condition a secret.

Michael Schumacher suffered a skiing accident in December 2013 and was placed into a medically induced coma.

He was later moved to the family’s Lake Geneva home in September 2014 where a team of medical staff now support his wife Corinna in looking after him.

Jordan, who gave Michael his break in F1 in 1991, revealed last year his plans to visit the seven-time Formula One world champion were vetoed by Michael’s family.

‘This was the most horrific situation for Mick and Corinna,’ Jordan told OLBG.

‘It’s been nearly ten years now and Corinna has not been able to go to a party, to lunch or this or that, she’s like a prisoner because everyone would want to talk to her about Michael when she doesn’t need reminding of it every minute.’

Schumacher once described his wife, 54, as his ‘guardian angel’, and she has taken total control of blocking out any noise around his condition.

Corinna has shunned speaking publicly about her husband and limited visits to see him, but did shed some light on her struggles in a documentary that aired in 2022.
