Michael Vaughan was missing from the Test Match Special and BBC TV coverage of the second Test on Wednesday after being forced to follow Covid-19 protocols after a trip to Northern Ireland.
The 45-year-old former England captain, one of the mainstays of the BBC’s coverage, is also expected to be absent for the second day of the second Test on Friday after travelling across the Irish Sea for a short break at the end of the first Test against Pakistan.
He must now have two negative virus tests before he is allowed back into the ECB’s strict biosecure bubble at the Ageas Bowl and could return to the commentary box on Saturday.

Vaughan, a prolific user of social media, tweeted a picture of himself in a group of golfers at Royal Portrush on Monday. He followed it up the next day with another praising the Galgorm Spa and Golf Resort.
The first Test ended a day early on Saturday after England’s dramatic win by three wickets.

A BBC spokesperson told Sportsmail that Vaughan had gone on a family trip and ‘as a precaution is undertaking the usual checks before joining the team again’. They added that he is expected back on air later this week.
The ECB refused to comment.
