Michelle Phillips, Carnie Wilson, Chynna Phillips and more honor ‘Mama’ Cass Elliott

48 years after her passing, ‘Mama’ Cass Elliot finally received a long-overdue star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with singer Michelle Phillips on hand to honor her.

The singer – best known for her work with The Mamas & the Papas – passed away due to heart failure in London at just 32 years of age in 1974.

She was honored by singers Carnie Wilson, Chynna Phillips, Bijou Phillips and Mackenzie Phillips, along with Cass’ child Owen Elliot-Kugell, Mickey Dolenz and more.

Michelle was the first presenter to speak at the ceremony, clad in black glasses, a black long-sleeved shirt, black earrings, black pants and black shoes.

‘On our first meeting, Cass and I experienced our first acid trip. It was 1965,’ Michelle explained.

‘We never came down. We bonded. She was my best friend. She gave me courage to sing when I thought I couldn’t make a note. She’d say, “Hey just go for it. You know I’m gonna make it.” And so I went for it,’ she added.

Michelle and Owen also posed with Carnie Wilson, Chynna Phillips, Bijou Phillips and Mackenzie Phillips.

Chynna opted for a white t-shirt and brown skirt with a brown hat while Bijou donned a navy blue minidress, Owen donned a multi-colored maxi dress and Mackenzie wore a black suit with a green scarf.

Carnie Wilson opted for a black maxi dress with white floral prints along with black aviator sunglasses for the event. 

Carnie also posed with actress Beverly D’Angelo, who once lived in Mama Cass’ old home on Coldwater Canyon.

D’Angelo also tried to invoke the spirit of Mama Cass on a 2011 episode of Celebrity Ghost Stories.

Bijou also brought her eight-year-old daughter Fianna Francis Masterson, who she shares with her husband, actor Danny Masterson. 

Cass Elliot was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 for her work with The Mamas & The Papas.

She also released five solo albums after the group had split.
