Michelle Visage reveals her husband and daughter have been undergoing ‘ketamine therapy’ to treat severe depression

Radio 2 presenter Michelle Visage has revealed that her husband and daughter have been undergoing ‘ketamine therapy’, using the horse tranquilliser which has been a popular illegal drug on the British rave scene for years.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Visage, 54, who has two daughters Lillie, 23, and Lola, 21, with the author David Case, says: ‘My husband and my daughter have just completed ketamine therapy.’

Speaking to actress Kathy Burke on the Where There’s A Will There’s A Wake podcast, the American star of RuPaul’s Drag Race explains of the treatment, which is used to treat severe depression:

‘It is popping up on every corner in dispensaries in Los Angeles.’

Though Visage stresses that recreational drugs ‘have never been good’ and that she has ‘never taken drugs in my life’, she describes the treatment, which her family underwent in the U.S. as ‘a game changer’, adding: ‘It is good.’

In 2019 Michelle opened up about Lola’s struggles with mental health, sharing a picture of herself and Lola on Instagram that had been taken two years previously to reflect on how far she had come.

‘This is a 2 year old pic of me with my youngest daughter @lvvisage,’ Michelle wrote.

‘Photos many times hide truths. She was not in a great place mental health wise in this shot but she has fought through the darkest times to arrive where she is today.’

‘Lola, you speaking out about your struggles helps so many others. I am so proud of you. You’ve got this and we are ALWAYS right behind you.’

‘If you know someone struggling with mental health issues, I know how hard it is because you don’t know what to do.’

‘Neither do they. Please don’t give up on them. Sometimes just knowing you are there could be a big help.’

Also in 2019  Michelle revealed that her eldest daughter Lillie was at one point suicidal after struggling with depression for several years.

She explained at the time how ‘[Lillie’s depression lasted] years. Lillie was suicidal for a while. But she’s been three years on the other side now.

‘I tend to take a holistic approach, so we tried everything before we realised we had to actually save her with medication and therapy,’ she told OK magazine.

‘With mental health, children are always forgotten, people tell them to ‘man up and quit complaining’.

‘Instagram really feeds into that. Lillie will log out for a month and Lola’s come to a place where she now realises her self worth. I’ve taught her to love herself.

‘Our daughters are strong and independent. Lillie’s queer and Lola’s heteronormative. They’re beautiful in their own ways but have both battled depression.’
