Michelle Wolf to host White House Correspondents Dinner

‘The Daily Show’ comedienne Michelle Wolf has been named the host of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, it was announced on Thursday.

Wolf first worked as a writer on ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’ before joining ‘The Daily Show With Trevor Noah’.

She recently received rave reviews for HBO hour-long special ‘Michelle Wolf: Nice Lady’ and is expected to be launching a weekly Netflix show later this year.

Now the only question will be if President Donald Trump decides to attend the annual get-together of journalists, to be held this year on April 28.

In a statement, Bloomberg News reporter and president of the correspondents’ association Margaret Talev, praised Wolf’s ‘truth-to-power style’ and ‘self-made, feminist edge’.

‘Our dinner honors the First Amendment and strong, independent journalism. [Wolf’s] embrace of these values and her truth-to-power style make her a great friend to the WHCA,’ said Talev.

‘Her Pennsylvania roots, stints on Wall Street and in science and self-made, feminist edge make her the right voice now.’

Wolf will be only the fifth woman to ever host the long-running dinner. She has been preceded by Cecily Strong, Wanda Sykes, Elayne Boosler and Paula Poundstone.

The White House has not yet announced whether Trump will attend this year’s dinner, after skipping last year’s. The president and first lady traditionally attend the annual event, alongside members of the press and other senior government officials.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders did say he would attend another journalism dinner, the Gridiron Club Dinner, on March 3.

Trump’s contentious relationship with the media was a contributing factor to his absence from the correspondents’ dinner last year, and his attacks on “fake news” haven’t let up since then.

At last year’s dinner, host and fellow’ Daily Show’ comedian Hasan Minhaj threw jabs at the commander-in-chief.

‘Donald Trump is liar-in-chief,” Minhaj said.”Remember, you guys are public enemy number one. You are his biggest enemy. Journalists, ISIS, normal-length ties.’

Wolf herself has gone after Trump on ‘The Daily Show’. In an appearance after he was elected, she joked: ‘Women make up half of this country, Trevor, and now we have a leader who only sees us as a** and t**s. Even PornHub thinks we are more than that.’
