Middle school teacher, 27, is charged with raping a 13-year-old girl in his class ‘after admitting he had sex with her three times’

A middle school teacher from Kentucky has been charged with raping a 13-year-old female student and then attempting to cover up the crime.

Barren County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Deputy Mike Houchens said Barren County Middle School teacher William Kyle Gardner, 27, was arrested on Saturday on counts of second-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse and tampering with evidence.

An arrest citation obtained by Barren County News indicates that Gardner admitted to deputies in an interview that he had sex with an underage female student on three occasions.

Gardner also reportedly confessed to blocking the victim on the social media app Snapchat for fear that someone might find out about them, reported WNKY.

The underage victim was interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center, where she allegedly confirmed that she and her teacher had sexual contact.

Gardner was booked into the county jail on $75,000 bail.  

A statement on the Barren County Schools Facebook page said officials are cooperating with law enforcement and will take action to ‘protect students.’ 

Gardner is due back in court on November 7.
