A baby girl has died in hospital after the infant was found unresponsive inside a suburban home. 

The three-week-old baby was found at a house on Jones Street in Mighell, near Innisfail, about 90km south of Cairns, around 9.30am on Saturday.

The baby was rushed to hospital after she was discovered but Queensland Police have said that she later died. 

‘An investigation has commenced, and detectives will work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,’ Queensland Police said in a statement. 

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Queensland Health for comment.
