One of sport’s greatest unanswered questions has always been who would win in a fight between Mike Tyson and a shark.

However, we may have just found out after the 54-year-old boxing icon was filmed putting a shark to sleep by tickling its nose while scuba diving

Tyson – who vomited and admitted he was ‘scared to death’ before achieving his aim – took on the underwater challenge to kickoff the Discovery Channel’s ‘Shark Week’.

Iron Mike took on sharks for a duration of three rounds in a battle dubbed ‘Tyson vs Jaws’ by the channel.

The first part of the challenge saw Tyson cage-diving with lemon sharks.

In the second round the pressure was notched up a little with an open ocean dive where Tyson had to push the sharks gently away if they got too close to him.

Tyson then threw up by the time the final stage had arrived, which challenged him to grab a shark and try to induce tonic immobility.

A camera was then placed on the shark’s fin as Tyson continued to tickle its nose, and upon the completion of the task he was consequently declared the ‘undisputed champion of the shark’.

Tyson was in the Bahamas for the challenge, with Bleacher Report claiming he had been working with scientists to get more comfortable with sharks.

His exotic and thrilling trip came as he prepares to make his comeback in the much more familiar surroundings of the boxing ring in November.

Tyson faces Roy Jones Jr, 51, in an eight-round exhibition in a bout initially scheduled for September but which has now been put back by a couple of months to ‘maximise revenue’.

Tyson also revealed that Shark Week helped conquer his fears and in turn prepared him mentally for his anticipated ring return.

He said: ‘I took on this challenger to overcome fears I still deal with in life.

‘I equate this with overcoming my fear of getting back into the ring at 54 years old. I learned from this experience doing Shark Week that whatever intimidates me.

‘I am still able to step up to the challenge of overcoming anything that would prevent me from accomplishing my life’s mission of reaching my highest potential in life and bringing me closer to God.’
