Miley Cyrus’ family rally round new girlfriend Kaitlynn Carter

Kaitlynn Carter has been given a ringing endorsement from Miley Cyrus’ close family members, just days after the pair were pictured passionately kissing during a summer break in Italy.

Miley, 26, appeared to confirm a new romance with Carter while holidaying in Lake Como, shortly before announcing her seven month marriage to Australian actor Liam Hemsworth was over in a statement released on Saturday.  

The under fire brunette, who was previously involved with TV personality Brody Jenner, has since been supported by the singer’s older sister Brandi Cyrus after posting a racy new shot on Instagram.

Updating her account on Monday evening, Kaitlynn shared an image in which she gazes out at the Mediterranean while relaxing aboard a luxury yacht.

Appearing to reference her skimpy outfit – a sheer white bodice and cropped denim shorts – Brandi, 32, commented: ‘Boom boom boooooom!’ 

The comment comes following a tumultuous weekend, during which Kaitlynn and former Hanna Montana star Miley confirmed their romance with a very public display of affection.

Miley, 26, later issued a statement via her publicist to People magazine, in which she confirmed the break-up. 

‘Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers,’ the statement read.

‘They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.’

According to TMZ, Miley didn’t begin dating Kaitlynn until after her split with Liam.

A source claimed the two women, who have been friends for several years, are ‘seeing each other with no labels attached.’

Liam publicly addressed his split from Miley who he originally met while filming romantic drama The Last Song in 2009 – on Tuesday morning. 

The Hunger Games star, 29, shared a photo to Instagram of a beach at sunset alongside a brief caption addressed to his fans after it was claimed that they have been separated for months.

He wrote: ‘Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward… Peace and Love.’

Long term: Liam originally met Miley while filming romantic drama The Last Song in 2009
