Miley Cyrus was ‘always deathly afraid Liam Hemsworth would cheat on her’

Miley Cyrus has wasted no time moving on from her split with Liam Hemsworth.

But while her new romance with Kaitlynn Carter reportedly left her estranged husband ‘blindsided’, it turns out the 26-year-old singer was actually the ‘jealous’ one in their relationship.

A friend of the Can’t Be Tamed star told WHO magazine on Thursday that Miley ‘was always deathly afraid Liam would cheat on her.’

The source added: ‘They both had massive trust issues with each other.’

Meanwhile, another insider told OK! Australia that Liam, 29, was ‘hurt’ by Miley’s fling with Kaitlynn, who is also newly single following her split with Brody Jenner.

‘Liam has been waiting for years for Miley to “grow up”, as he saw it,’ they said.

‘She still just wants to have fun and shock people – and this makeout session in Italy with Kaitlynn shows that.’ 

The source continued: ‘[Miley and Liam] are done. They’ve totally grown apart.’

It comes after Miley and Liam’s seemingly amicable separation turned ugly. 

In the four days since their separation was announced, shocking claims of drug use and infidelity are now emerging as insiders from both sides give drastically different accounts of the pair’s marriage breakdown.

Sources close to Miley have told TMZ that she tried ‘valiantly’ to save the marriage but couldn’t accept the fact Liam was ‘drinking a lot’ and ‘using certain drugs’.

Miley’s struggles with substance abuse in the past meant that drugs were a ‘deal-breaker’ for her.

Sources on Liam’s side are ‘calling bulls**t’, according to TMZ, and say the real issue was Miley’s infidelity.

The Australian actor’s friends say the Wrecking Ball star is using the drug and alcohol accusations to distract from the real cause of their split. 

While no further details were given by Liam’s source, they denied claims the couple split ‘months before’ Miley was photographed kissing Kaitlynn Carter last week.

‘This is another attempt by Miley to distract from her infidelity and recent outrageous public behavior,’ the friend told TMZ.

The couple, who dated on and off for 10 years, announced their split on Saturday after just seven months of marriage.

Meanwhile, others sources told Page Six this week that Liam was hoping to have ‘a normal, settled-down life’ with his wife, while Miley appeared to be reverting back to her famously wild ways.

Following their initial split in 2013 (they reconciled in 2016), Miley went off the rails and infamously ‘twerked’ on Robin Thicke at the VMAs.

After toning down her behaviour when they first reunited, sources believe that her recent return to ‘old Miley’ had upset Liam.

Another source denied that Miley was ever unfaithful to Liam, telling Page Six: ‘She never hooked up with girls while she was married. It wasn’t a part of the relationship.

‘There was no hooking up behind his back or with his knowledge.’

On Tuesday, Liam broke his silence on the split, just two days after the pictures of Miley and Kaitlynn kissing were published.

He shared a photo to Instagram of a beach at sunset alongside a brief caption addressed to his fans.

‘Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward… Peace and Love,’ he wrote.

A rep for Miley said on Saturday: ‘Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time. Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.

‘They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.’

Soon after the split announcement, reports emerged claiming that Miley desperately tried to save her marriage to Liam before they quietly separated ‘months’ ago.

As reported by TMZ, the Party in the USA hitmaker wanted to go into therapy with her husband to fix things but ‘he didn’t come close to meeting her half way.’

The last known footage of the couple in public together was taken on July 9. They looked decidedly unhappy while strolling through Solvang, California.
