Mindy Kaling jokes she’s had busy week after giving birth

She welcomed her daughter, Katherine Swati Kaling, into the world last Friday.

And Mindy Kaling joked that she’d had a ‘busy week’ as she told her Instagram followers she didn’t have time to cook for her annual work holiday dinner on Thursday, instead calling on her The Mindy Project assistants to help her out.

The actress and producer, 38, chose the 1998 Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan romantic comedy You’ve Got Mail as her theme for the party and posted a menu for the evening to her Instagram account.

That’s an understatement! Mindy Kaling joked that she’d had a ‘busy week’ as she told her followers she didn’t have time to cook for her annual work holiday dinner on Thursday

The Office star posted a photo to her account of her manicured pink nails holding a dinner menu filled with references to 80s and 90s romantic comedies like When Harry Met Sally and You’ve Got Mail.

Mindy captioned the post: ‘I usually do a holiday dinner with the young women that work with me but I’ve had a busy week! So they brought the holiday dinner to me.’

Mindy gave birth to her baby girl on December 15, and while the tot’s birth certificate was obtained by Entertainment Tonight, the identity of Katherine’s father continues to remain a mystery.

The Ocean’s 8 actress refused to comment on the identity of her baby’s father throughout her pregnancy, and has continued to remain tight-lipped on the matter.

The star’s daughter’s middle name appears to be a tribute to her late mother who was named Swati. Mindy’s mother, who was a physician, died in 2012.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in October, the actress said she was ‘having a great time’ being pregnant, as she had begun to realize she took a lot of things for granted prior to her pregnancy.

‘I’m very, very pregnant,’ she said. ‘I’ve had a pretty great time of it so far, but I think I took a lot for granted before this, now that I’m in my current situation.

‘Like, sitting, I’m obsessed with sitting and even when I was standing back there I was looking at this chair and I was like, “Awww, can’t wait to sit in that chair!”‘

Mindy’s pregnancy announcement was somewhat dampened when her A Wrinkle In Time co-star Oprah Winfrey managed to let the news slip.

But the actress insisted she wasn’t upset about the gaffe, as she can now tell her daughter the story involving legendary talk show host.

She told Ellen: ‘At first I was like, OK if anyone was going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey’s the person.

‘You can’t be like, “Hey, Oprah, zip it!” because she’s almost like a religious figure.

‘I thought, “OK, if there’s one person I have to tell my daughter who revealed her existence to the world, Oprah’s pretty good.”‘

As well as her exciting baby news, The Office could be heading for a re-boot.

The actress played hilarious Kelly Kapoor in the NBC comedy from 2003 to 2013, on which she was a writer-performer.

Mindy and her co-writers and producers were nominated five consecutive times for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

While spokespeople for the network declined to comment, sources confirmed the network ‘is eyeing a continuation of the beloved workplace comedy for the 2018-2019 season’.

‘The revival would once again be set at Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton, Pennsylvania, branch and feature a mix of new and old cast members,’ the source told TVLine this week.

Fans may disappointed to hear that Steve Carell’s character, Scranton’s regional manager Michael Scott, will not be involved in the series.
