A mine worker in outback Australia has crushed his own ute after running over it with a massive haul truck. 

The ute driver was sent out to perform maintenance on the haul truck at the Brockman 4 Iron Ore Mine in northern Western Australia on Thursday. 

Pictures of the incident show the ute crushed under the wheel of the haul truck. 

No-one was injured in the incident.

Mining company Rio Tinto confirmed it is investigating how the incident happened. 

‘Rio Tinto confirms it is investigating an incident involving a manned haul truck and a stationary, unattended light vehicle at its Brockman 4 mine on the morning of November 21,’ a spokesperson for the company told 10 daily. 

‘The incident occurred after the driver of the light vehicle boarded the haul truck to perform a maintenance task.’ 

‘Importantly, no one was injured in the incident. Safety is our top priority and the ongoing internal investigation will seek to identify measures to ensure such incidents are avoided in the future. The company has also informed the Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety (DMIRS).’ 

Haul trucks are off-highway dump trucks specifically used for high production mining and heavy duty construction. 

The trucks range in size but generally weigh over 600 tonnes and the tyres are over two metres high.
