Minnesota man on how to catch a gopher in two minutes

  • Nate Dolan was tired of gophers digging holes in his backyard
  • He fills a five gallon water jug half way and places it over the gopher’s hole
  • The water flushes out the gopher and it comes running into the jug
  • The whole demonstration took just two quick minutes

A Minnesota man recorded a quick and easy way to catch pocket gophers using just a water jug.

Nate Dolan came up with the innovative idea because he was tired of gophers digging holes in his backyard and creating mounds of dirt.

Video shows Nate filling a five gallon jug halfway with water and placing it over the mound.

The water flushes out the small rodent and it comes running through the opening of the jug.

The entire video is only two minutes from the time Nate fills the jug, walks to his backyard and catches the rodent.

He has his dog Max along with him for the demonstration who helps locate the hole.

At one point he tells the camera that he has to keep the dog from running ahead and scaring the gopher away or worse, making it his snack.

Pocket gophers are rodents who are notorious for digging.

They have large paddle-shaped front teeth just for digging through soil and small sensitive tails that allow them to back up in their dark tunnels.

The rodents can be a gardener’s nightmare when they leave mounds of dirt that mark the entrance and exit to their burrows.

It’s unclear what Nate did with the gopher once it was caught.

But it’s certain that wherever the rodent goes, it’ll be far away from Nate’s yard.
