Mississippi State’s quarterback suffered a horrific foot injury during the Egg Bowl Thursday evening.
Nick Fitzgerald, who has helped Mississippi State to an 8-3 record, was running the football in the first quarter when he was tackled during his team’s match-up against Ole Miss.
His leg reportedly buckled when he was tackled and as other players got to their feet, Fitzgerald was seen agonizing in pain as he held his injured leg in the air.

It appeared his foot did a full twist when he was tackled. Team officials, coaches and paramedics rushed to the field after seeing the gruesome injury.
Audience members were clearly shocked to witness such a cringe-worthy injury and photos showed women cupping their mouths with the hands, while some guys were seen holding their heads.
The Ole Miss Rebels took a knee as as Fitzgerald was prepped to be moved and placed on an injury cart.
But he somehow found the strength to flip off the Rebels anyway.
As he was carted away, photos show Fitzgerald sticking up his middle finger at Davis Wade Stadium.

A short time later, the athlete took to Twitter to assure his fans that he will be making a comeback

‘I’ll be back stronger and better than ever! I love all my Hailstate fam and all I want right now is for all of y’all to ring your bells as loud as you can and support this team to a huge egg bowl win! #HaiIState,’ he wrote.
But unfortunately, Mississippi State lost 31-28 to the Rebels. Fitzgerald was second in the SEC in total yards per game before Thursday.
He had 1,770 passing yards and 968 on the ground, which is the sixth-most for a quarterback in the nation.
