She’s the My Kitchen Rules contestant known for her glamorous looks and witty one-liners.

But Jess Alvial showed a softer side on Sunday’s episode of the program, breaking down in tears after she served up a white chocolate cheesecake at her Instant Restaurant.

The 31-year-old cried when the dessert received rave reviews from judges Pete Evans and Manu Feildel, later revealing that the dish held a lot of meaning for her as it was one she often made for her stepfather.

As she listened to her dessert be described as ‘spot on’, ‘delicious’ and ‘perfect’, Jess couldn’t contain her emotions.

‘What was different about this course for you?’ Pete inquired after he lavished praise on the sweet treat.

‘I know this well. There was so much love in it,’ the cooking contestant replied as she wiped away tears.

Continuing to splutter, she added: ‘I’ve made this dish so many times for my stepfather’.

The camera then panned around the table of Jess’s fellow competitors, who all displayed empathetic looks on their faces.

However, arch-rival Roula failed to be moved by the anecdote.

In a piece to camera after the event, Roula stated: ‘That was a fake cry.  She was just cried to get Pete and Manu on her side.’

She then mimicked Jess, saying: ‘Aw I’ve got a sob story. My stepdad liked this meal’

Roula’s teammate Rachel then asked: ‘Did her stepdad pass away?’

Failing to be moved, Roula then snapped back: ‘Oh, okay.. whatever’.

It was left unclear as to whether Jess’s stepfather had indeed passed away.

Despite a sub-par first two dishes, the dessert saved the sisters from the bottom two elimination round, with Ash and Matty going up against Stella and Jazzy in the upcoming cook-off.
