MKR’s Sonya Mefaddi claims the REAL reason she lashed out during the explosive dinner was edited out

My Kitchen Rules star Sonya Mefaddi has spoken out after an explosive dinner argument led to her and teammate Hadil Sadeq getting booted off the show.

Sonya took to Instagram and Facebook on Friday, to claim the real reason why she lashed out during the spat was that she had been subject to vile insults including ‘ugly fat b***h’ and ‘dumb c*** while filming.

She added that editing is partly to blame for her negative portrayal on the show, writing: ‘It’s been a really tough road seeing myself being portrayed in such a horrible light.’

Is this the moment viewers didn’t see? MKR’s Sonya Mefaddi (L, with Hadil Sadeq) claims the REAL reason she lashed out during the explosive dinner was edited out and admits it’s been ‘tough seeing myself portrayed in such a horrible light’

‘Growing up, I was bullied for my race and my weight,’ Sonya began the lengthy post.

‘One memory in particular which I’ll never forget was having the contents of my school bag tipped into a bin because of my background. I remember feeling shocked and angry and also feeling so hurt.’

‘Fast forward to the 21st century and who would have thought taking part in a cooking competition would bring back all those cruel, hurtful and extremely upsetting words online?’

She told fans she would try and explain the situation as much as she could, without breaking her Channel Seven contract.

Talking about the names she was called during filming, she said: ‘Those words struck a chord with me and really hurt which clearly showed.’

‘It’s been hard to apologise for that reason because it was a two way argument with name calling started by others. Did I handle that moment the best? No.’

She then went on to apologise to fans.

‘The words I said were out of line and don’t reflect my values or who I’ve grown up to be as a person and I am personally truly sorry. I have respect for all the teams in the competition, the long hours of filming, practicing and writing out recipes isn’t easy.’

She said that only their reactions were shown, not everything else.

‘We all experienced the MKR bubble together and emotions are heightened, words are said, reactions are given and in this instance that was all that was shown – our reactions.’

Sonya added: ‘I hope people can be more sensitive to the mental impact that this has had on me, our fellow contestants and our families and realise we have feelings and the constant bullying is not OK. Love, Sonya x.’

Meanwhile, Channel Seven confirmed to a News.com.au reports that Sonya and Hadil were involved in an off-camera altercation in a hotel room that contributed to their booting from the show.

An ‘MKR insider’ told the website on Saturday that a physical exchange broke out between the pair and fellow teams while they were staying at a hotel in Tasmania.

The incident allegedly took place just two days BEFORE Sonia and Hadil were removed from a fiery dinner party for hurling profanities – a shock event which was aired during last Wednesday’s episode of the show.

The insider told news.com.au that the physical incident occurred when Sonia and Hadil were walking past a hotel room and heard several other teams talking inside.

Upset by what they overheard, the fiery pair knocked on the door which was answered by brothers Josh and Nic.

The insider stated: ‘It started as voices and people arguing and pretty quickly got to push and shove. It blew up in the corridor. Other people on the floor poked their heads out of their doors. It calmed down pretty quickly and everyone returned to their rooms, but it was not a good scene.’

Channel Seven confirmed an altercation had taken place, saying in a statement: ‘While on location, during a break in filming, several members of this year’s teams became involved in an argument which escalated into a physical exchange’.

‘Over the following days, producers put in considerable effort to rebuild the teams and their relationships with each other.’

Seven then stated that this was not successful, and the team was ‘dismissed’ from the show.
