On Sunday, Salah beat Kevin De Bruyne to pick up the PFA Player of the Year award

And on Sunday his form was rewarded with the prestigious PFA award. The Liverpool forward beat off competition from the likes of Kevin De Bruyne to land the prize in London on Sunday.

In so doing, he became the seventh Liverpool player to win the award and the first since Luis Suarez in 2014.

On Monday, however, Salah was back on the training ground alongside the likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino as the Reds prepared for Tuesday’s first leg against his former side at Anfield.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was also among the squad that trained at Melwood and the midfielder hopes Salah will remain Liverpool’s talisman for years to come.

‘He deserved it. He’s been fantastic throughout the season. His record and his stats speak for themselves. He’s been a massive player for us this season.

‘Hopefully he can continue that form over the next few weeks. He’s up there with the world’s best so obviously there will be other clubs who want to take him away. But I feel like he’s in a great place with a great set of lads and a great manager going in the right direction.

‘We want to create our own history here and I’m sure that Mo wants to be part of that. He’s a big part of that now and I’m sure he will be for many years to come.

‘Playing in the semi-final of the Champions League at Anfield is a huge occasion not only for me but for all the players.’
