Leading Australian model Dominique Elissa has shared the five simple things she does without fail one week out from a swimwear shoot – and revealed why everyone should do them seven days before a big event.
The 24-year-old from Sydney said while she doesn’t follow these rules the entire time, if she is strict with herself in the final lead-up to a shoot, she feels and looks better in front of the camera.
‘You may have an important event coming up, or are going away on a holiday in the sun and want to look and feel your best,’ Dominique wrote on her blog.
So what does the top model do?

The 24-year-old (pictured) from Sydney said while she doesn’t follow these rules all the time, if she is strict with herself in the final lead-up, she feels and looks better in front of the camera
1. She cuts out dairy completely
When it comes to bloating, the 24-year-old said there is no food that bloats her more than dairy products.
‘I am lactose intolerant and when I eat dairy it bloats me for almost a week,’ Dominique said.
She recommends if you struggle with similar bloating issues that you cut out dairy for a week and see how you feel.
‘Cutting out dairy has honestly changed my life. I sleep better, I suffer less stomach aches and I don’t have a bloated stomach all the time,’ she said.
You don’t have to go without things like milk, yoghurt and cheese either – simply pick the plant-based alternatives.
Dominique (pictured) said in the week before a big shoot, she increases her Pilates and yoga classes to either one or the other each day – she thinks Pilates is best for a toned, lean body
2. She ups her Pilates and yoga
Unfortunately, a swimwear-ready body isn’t born without a bit of exercise effort, and so before she shoots, Dominique said she will increase the frequency of her Pilates and yoga classes.
‘I really believe Pilates is the best form of exercise if you want to be toned and lean,’ she said.
She will do either a Pilates or yoga class every single day before a shoot, and then right before the shoot in order to get that ‘last-minute pump’ of her abs.
If you want to try yoga or Pilates, Dominique is a big fan of the Australian franchise KX Pilates or heated yoga, as she said that sweating is a fantastic way to both detoxify the body and burn extra calories.
Dominque (pictured) also reduces her carbs during the day and will cut them out in evenings, while she will increase the amount of protein she eats to replenish her muscles
3. She reduces her carbs and increases her protein
You may have heard that protein is paramount to an effective workout, and Dominique agrees with this whole-heartedly.
‘During this week, I reduce my carbohydrates during the day and will cut them out in the evening,’ she said.
‘I also increase my protein to replenish my muscles after training. This helps them to grow and for my muscles to appear leaner.’
Boiled eggs with salt and pepper is a go-to snack for the 24-year-old when she wants to get super lean.
Dominique said when she eats out in the final week (pictured), she asks for no dressing, dressing on the side or just a dressing of lemon juice and olive oil
4. She asks for no dressing
While you might want to cook at home when you’re in the last week before an event, Dominique knows that sometimes there is no avoiding eating out.
But she does have one tip if you have to eat at a restaurant or cafe, and that is that you ask for your dressing or sauce on the side.
Dominique said she does this because when you order food, it’s difficult to know exactly what’s inside it.
So if she orders a ‘healthy’ poke bowl, she will ask for either no dressing or just olive oil and lemon juice – which will not bloat you but provide your skin with glowing antioxidants.
At the last minute or the final night, there is little you can do, but Dominique (pictured) said there is one thing she will never do without – an infrared sauna
What are the benefits of infrared saunas?
* Better sleep
* Weight loss
* Relief from sore muscles
* Clearer, glowing skin
* Improved circulation
5. She has an infrared sauna the night before
At the last minute or the final night, there is little you can do to make yourself look better, but Dominique said there is one thing she will never do without.
A ‘big advocate’ of infrared saunas, the 24-year-old said she will always do one of these just one night before the big event.
This is because they help to both detoxify the body, promote better sleep, help with glowing skin and burn more calories.
‘With all these amazing benefits, I always feel my best the day after. My skin looks brighter, and I just feel lighter,’ she said.
When it comes to her daily diet, Dominique’s (pictured) approach is unsurprisingly healthy, balanced and packed with fresh vegetables
Speaking previously to FEMAIL, Dominique shared her health and beauty secrets – including her day on a plate and the one guilty pleasure she can’t live without.
When it comes to her daily diet, Dominique’s approach is unsurprisingly healthy, balanced and packed with fresh vegetables:
What is Dominique’s day on a plate?
* BREAKFAST: Green protein shake with one frozen banana, vanilla and cinnamon protein powder, maca powder, a handful of spinach, spirulina powder, ice and water.
* MORNING SNACK: Tamari almonds.
* LUNCH: Tuna salad with brown rice, avocado and whatever other vegetables she has on hand.
* AFTERNOON SNACK: Peanut butter protein ball.
* DINNER: Grilled salmon with sweet potato and broccoli.
* EVENING: Frozen raspberries with honey or a couple of pieces of 70 per cent dark chocolate.
‘In the morning, first up I’ll have a green protein shake,’ Dominique told Daily Mail Australia.
‘I usually put in one frozen banana, vanilla and cinnamon protein powder by Bare Blendz, maca powder, a handful of spinach, spirulina powder, ice and water.’
As a morning snack, she’ll have a ‘handful of tamari almonds’.
Lunch usually sees the 24-year-old mix up ‘a tuna salad with brown rice, avocado and whatever other veggies I have in the fridge. The more colour, the better!’
If she’s hungry in the afternoon, Dominique will have a peanut butter protein ball before a dinner of ‘grilled salmon with sweet potato and broccoli’.
Refreshingly, Dominique is not one to deprive herself.
Fond of a ‘little treat’ in the evenings, the model will either enjoy frozen raspberries with honey or a couple of pieces of 70 per cent dark chocolate.
‘My guilty pleasure is peanut butter, though,’ she laughed. ‘I can eat an entire tub in one sitting!’
With such a honed physique, you might expect Dominique to be working out 24/7.
But, in fact, she only makes sure she’s moving for a matter of 30 minutes each and every day:
‘I have made it a priority to walk for 30 minutes every day, just to ensure my body moves daily,’ she said.
‘I also incorporate a 15 minute ab and booty workout in the hotel room whenever I have the time.’
The 24-year-old then does two reformer Pilates classes and two yoga sessions a week:
‘Due to my busy schedule and the constant travel, it’s hard, but I’ve made it a priority to stay on top of my fitness,’ she explained.
Dominique’s beauty secret is coconut oil – which she applies religiously to the ends of her hair to keep it healthy.
