A Philadelphia mother who made headlines for throwing a $25,000 prom send-off for her son has now hosted an over the top community giveaway just days after being charged with fraud.

Saudia Shuler, 44, hosted her annual back-to-school book bag charity drive in her North Philadelphia neighborhood on Tuesday.

Hundreds of families queued up for hours along the street outside Shuler’s The Country Cookin’ restaurant to receive free bookbags and school supplies.

It comes after the US attorney’s office in Philadelphia announced charges of wire fraud, theft of government funds and Social Security fraud against her on August 14.

Prosecutors say Shuler applied for benefits, describing herself as disabled and unable to work, but continued working – including operating her restaurant – costing the government more than $36,000.

Shuler refused to comment on the fraud charges during her community event on Tuesday.

‘I’m never gonna stop doing what I do,’ Shuler told CBS. ‘This is what I do, everything I do is about the kids.’

Shuler has become known for her lavish and over-the-top events after the prom send-off she hosted for her teenage son Johnny Eden Jr. last year went viral.

The $25,000 Dubai-themed prom party included a live Arabian camel, a rented Lamborghini, Range Rover and Rolls Royce, three tons of sand and three dates all wearing custom designed gowns.

Her son also donned three different custom-made outfits for the pre-prom party.

Shuler also threw a Black Panther-themed prom this year complete with an actual black panther for the teens in her neighborhood.

The celebration had African dancers and people wearing custom costumes based on the ‘Black Panther’ movie. She dressed as Queen Mother Ramonda, a character portrayed in the film by actress Angela Bassett.

Schuler said neighbors and friends helped pitch in for the undisclosed price of the celebration, described as costing in the six figures.

Her lawyer, Tariq El-Shabazz, has previously dismissed the allegations against her as false.

‘Ms Shuler suffered from a stroke and as a result of that she was in rehab and unable to do anything for two-plus years around the same time she was allegedly perpetrating this particular fraud,’ he said.

Shuler could face a staggering 140 years with the maximum sentence.
