Mom responds to gay teen’s sleepover request on Twitter

A gay teen who asked his best friend’s mother if he could attend a girls-only sleepover received a brilliantly humorous response.

Mason Brian Barclay took to Twitter to share a screen grab of his text conversation with his friend’s mother, Mrs. Shelton, in which he politely asked whether he would be allowed to attend his friend Houston’s gathering.

‘If [Houston] had people over on Friday, would I, a very homosexual male, be able to take part in the sleepover?’ he wrote before explaining the rationale behind his request.

Reasoning: The teen pointed out that 'the meaning behind only allowing the same sex to share sleepovers is due to the interest in the opposite sex', which he doesn't have

‘I think the common meaning behind only allowing the same sex to share sleepovers is due to the typical interest in the opposite sex, when in this case, I do not like the opposite sex,’ Mason added.

He ended his text with an additional note of politeness, adding: ‘Thank you for your time and consideration, have a great night. Amen.’

Mason’s argument apparently resonated with Mrs. Shelton, but in turn, caused her to ask the teen a question of her own.

‘Hmm. Well, my husband is hot. Should I worry?’ she wrote.

Sharing: Mason thought Mrs. Shelton's reply was hilarious and took a screen shot to share it on Twitter before he even sent his response, which read: 'HAHAHAHAHAHAH'

He then posted it on Twitter last week, receiving more than 1,700 likes as well as several comments from people wanting to find out the rest of the story.

‘What was the answer I’m invested now,’ someone asked.

Another person had other concerns and asked: ‘Wait, so how hot is her dad?’ One Twitter user wondered the same and wrote: ‘More importantly did you meet the dad?’

Others found the mother’s response hilarious, and commended Mason for his straightforward, honest approach.

Mason wasn’t immediately sure whether he would be able to attend Houston’s sleepover, saying he would have to wait until Friday to find out.

The teen’s request ended up being successful and he was, in fact, allowed to attend his friend’s gathering, where everyone had a great time, as Mason told Refinery29.
