Moment a huge brawl that started outside a busy pub spills onto one of the busiest roads in Melbourne and leaves commuters stunned

Chaos broke out in Melbourne on Saturday after a man wielding a cricket bat started a mass brawl. 

The violence erupted outside the Bridie O’Reilly’s Irish pub on Chapel Street, in the city’s inner south-east, and saw more than 10 people exchanged blows.

Footage of the brawl was captured by a stunned motorist who sat metres away from the out-of-control mob.

Footage captured patrons jumping a barrier of the pub following a row with a man standing on a footpath at around 5pm. 

The clip then shows five men attack a man in an apricot shirt, punching him in front of motorists and confused residents.  

More than eight men are then seen spilling onto Chapel Street hitting each other and running down the road. 

One young man was eventually knocked to the ground and left injured just metres from moving cars.

Paramedics were called to the scene just after 5pm and treated a woman and man who had cuts to his head and are both aged in their 20s

Several young women also became caught up in the violence which lasted for more than a minute before it was broken up by other pedestrians.   

Those involved in the fight then dispersed back into the crowd.
