A dedicated nurse on the frontline of the fight against coronavirus was stunned by an adorable proposal from her boyfriend on Newcastle Quayside.
Jamie Shilling, 27, had originally planned to propose to Hannah Snaith, 24, on a trip to Dublin, but the break was cancelled as the coronavirus pandemic hit.
But seeing how hard his dedicated wife-to-be was working in her post in intensive care at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, Jamie knew he had to do something to show her how loved she is.

Instead of Dublin, Jamie managed to arrange for the special surprise on Newcastle Quayside. He dropped to one knee in front of her on Saturday as the screen showed a picture of their son George, 18 months, holding his sign asking his mum the big question
The couple, who live in Throckley, a village about seven miles west of Newcastle, have been together 10 years, having met while students at High School.
Instead of Dublin, Jamie managed to arrange for the special surprise on Newcastle Quayside, with the help of local company Smart Outdoor.

Jamie said: ‘She always says I’m not romantic – I always do nice things, but I never go over the top.
‘This weekend I had planned to go to Dublin and when we arrived, on the boards outside the station, there was going to be the picture of us, and of our little boy with a sign saying “Will you marry Daddy?”.
‘But with everything that’s going on, we can’t get to Dublin. I had thought I would just wait a few months, but this week Hannah has been working night shifts, she’s on a ward where there are people with coronavirus.
Speaking of his nurse wife-to-be, Jamie said: ”I’m 100 per cent proud of her, the work they do is fantastic and she works so hard – and when she gets home from work, I will be there and do my best to help.’
‘It’s not too busy now, but she knows it will increase.
‘She’s worried, she’s stressed, and what I thought was, “I’m not going to let what’s going on stop what I’ve planned, she should have a special moment regardless”.
‘I wanted to show that whatever’s happening we can still have special moments together.
‘I’m 100 per cent proud of her, the work they do is fantastic and she works so hard – and when she gets home from work, I will be there and do my best to help.’
Jamie added: ‘Hannah is something special. She’s very strong-willed, unlike me, I’m so laid-back, we’re a bit like chalk and cheese and I think that’s what makes it work’
Their son, George, now 18 months old, was born while Hannah was still studying to be a nurse, and she managed to balance her studies with being a new mum.

‘We’ve been together so long, we’ve grown up together.
‘She’s such a nice mum: George is our first child and she’s taken to it like a duck to water.’
