Moments we cannot wait to watch in Tottenham’s Amazon Prime series

If there was one season that Tottenham could have done without cameras following their every move then it probably would be this one.

Since reaching the Champions League final last summer, it has been a nightmare 13 months for Spurs and every second will be broadcast to the world when Amazon Prime’s ‘All or Nothing’ series airs.

The eight-part series, which is believed to be scheduled for release this summer, has followed everything from Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking to Eric Dier leaping into the stands to confront a fan and even this week’s bust-up between Hugo Lloris and Son Heung-min.

There were fears the coronavirus pandemic may halt production but filming continued during lockdown and, now the Premier League season is back in full flow, the cameras are rolling more than ever.

Manchester City’s ‘All or Nothing’ series captured them winning their first Premier League title under Pep Guardiola with a stunning 100 points but Spurs’ equivalent will not be set on the same backdrop of success.

Insiders have already described it as containing more drama and conflict than their fly-on-the-wall account of City’s season but which moments are we most looking forward to watching, popcorn in hand.

Here, Sportsmail has selected some of the most entertaining moments of Tottenham’s season that promise to be blockbuster TV when the series finally airs.

Lloris and Son’s bust-up

The latest fascinating chapter came on Monday night when Hugo Lloris angrily confronted Son Heung-min as they came off at half-time against Everton.

It is believed the goalkeeper was furious with his team-mate for not tracking back when Richarlison had a chance to score.

Footage showed goalkeeper Lloris racing over to confront his team-mate as the north London club were leaving the field during their 1-0 win over Everton.

The Frenchman pushed the attacker and Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko had to intervene to separate the pair as they walked into the tunnel.

But, according to The Sun, the tussle continued as the players made their way down the tunnel and into the dressing room and every second was captured by the camera crew.

It will be incredible to see the incident unfold behind the scenes and how it was dealt with by the likes of Jose Mourinho.

Dier’s furious trip into the stands

This dramatic incident had all the key ingredients of a Hollywood movie.

After Spurs had been beaten on penalties by Norwich in the FA Cup fifth round back in March, Dier furiously entered the stands and clambered over rows of seats to confront a supporter.

Dier was heading for the tunnel until he spotted his brother — a spectator at the match sitting in an area allocated for players’ families where the incident occurred — arguing with the fan who had been abusing him.

He then clambered over rows of seats and stormed high into the crowd to wade in as tensions spilled over. Dier insisted it was an attempt to protect his brother who he noticed had become involved in an argument with an angry fan during the game.

The fan in question ran away and out of the ground when Dier got close to where he had been sitting.

It remains to be seen just what sort of footage the Amazon crew managed to gather from this moment. But the aftermath and Dier’s immediate reaction would have given fans a hint of the traumatic experience it must have been.

The England international was later charged by the FA with misconduct for entering the crowd to remonstrate in a ‘threatening’ manner with the supporter.

Managerial change

Huge change arrived at the club in November when Mauricio Pochettino was sacked and saw his five-year stay at the club come to an end. There are sure to be some emotional scenes of his departure in the documentary.

It had been a sobering start to the season after reaching the Champions League final just five months earlier but the players weren’t responding to the Argentine’s methods anymore and change was needed.

Pochettino had been under intense scrutiny with the team languishing in 14th place in the Premier League when he was axed with just three league wins all season. They were also struggling in the Champions League, too.

Not many people saw his replacement coming though. Jose Mourinho was back in English football after being sacked by Manchester United just under a year before.

Inside footage of Mourinho’s first few weeks at the club and how he went about implementing a different style of play will be unmissable viewing .

Spurs have steadily improved but there has been no drastic turnaround in form or results and they are still way off the pace of the rest of the Premier League’s European contenders.

We’ve had some classic Mourinho moments so far which will also add entertainment to the series.

Him frantically running over to the fourth official against Manchester City to plead for a red card and the statistical lesson he gave after claims from Paul Merson that strikers struggle to score under his management are just some of the highlights.

It remains to be seen just how much money Mourinho will get to spend on new players this summer but there needs to be a drastic overhaul if they are to compete for the top four again.

Failing to comply with lockdown

Now, it remains to be seen whether this will feature in the documentary given the social distancing and lockdown measures that were implemented by the UK Government to tackle coronavirus earlier this year.

But we do know filming continued during lockdown. It just remains to be seen what the cameras recorded.

But Spurs did come under enormous scrutiny after players flouted lockdown measures to conduct training sessions during the suspension of football

Mourinho was caught breaking the rules when he held a training session with Tanguy Ndombele at Hadley Common earlier in April.

Davinson Sanchez and Ryan Sessegnon did likewise by going for a run alongside each other, as did Serge Aurier with a friend.

Aurier then broke the rules for a second time as he and Moussa Sissoko were seen training together in a video uploaded and then deleted by the defender as they went for a run just two weeks after the initial breach.

Other reports stated how chairman Daniel Levy was considering paying groundstaff to work on his private land, while even Pochettino was asked to take a pay cut on the money he still gets from the club.

Furloughing staff

It is fair to say Spurs’ image took a bit of a knock during the height of the coronavirus pandemic and some insight into the crisis management meetings that would have taken place would be fascinating.

First there were the lockdown breaches and then the controversy that followed the club’s announcement to use the Government’s furlough scheme.

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme entitles businesses to claim 80 per cent of an employee’s monthly wage up to £2,500.

But Mourinho’s players were left angered by the club’s decision to furlough non-playing staff, as well as the move to enforce 20 per cent pay cuts to other employees.

Spurs joined recently-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool in backtracking on their original plan after the decision to rely on the furlough scheme was met with widespread condemnation within the football community.

Tottenham declared a £69million profit last year, and their revenue of more than £460m makes them the eighth largest club in the world, according to Deloitte’s rankings. The club’s owner, Joe Lewis, is reported to be worth £4.3billion.

It will be interesting to see if Levy addresses the matter of furloughing staff directly during the ‘All or Nothing’ series.

Spurs did help the NHS fight the coronavirus though by allowing them to use their new £1billion stadium as a makeshift hospital and some footage of that in action would also be an interesting angle.

Battered by Bayern

It was the lowest point of the season so far and highlighted just how far Spurs had fallen since reaching the Champions League final last season.

The insights Amazon’s documentary will provide from inside the dressing room on that night promise to be must-watch.

Very few teams are blown away so categorically at the elite level of football but even fewer have the aftermath caught on camera.

In just the second round of group stage matches, Spurs were completely dismantled at home by Bayern Munich and conceded five second-half goals during a miserable 7-2 defeat by the German giants.

It was made worse by the fact that Pochettino and his players went ahead through Son and were on level terms until Robert Lewandowski scored just before half-time.

Serge Gnabry, formerly of Arsenal, scored four times in the second half as the Spurs defence just crumbled before Lewandowski netted a second to add further misery.

It was the first time in Tottenham’s 137-year history that they had ever conceded seven goals at home in any competition.

City’s ‘All or Nothing’ series really captured the devastation after Guardiola’s side were blown away twice at Anfield in 2017-18. The dismay in the Spurs dressing room will be even more intriguing.
