Eager skiers have flooded Thredbo’s ski pass shop after the resort said it would reopen on June 22.

After making the announcement on Thursday, more than 28,000 customers had logged on by 3.30pm.

The extreme demand prompted the resort to urge customers to stay calm on social media.

‘We have been overwhelmed by demand for the first release of the 2020 lift passes,’ the statement read.

‘At one point we had as many as 25,000 visiting our online store to purchase lift passes, the largest volume we’ve ever experienced on our store.

‘We are working hard to ensure everyone is able to purchase their passes and we appreciate your patience.’

The resort will be reopened at 50 per cent capacity, meaning lift passes are limited.

As of Thursday night there were still passes available and the online shop was still working, but orders were processing slowly.

The slow processing speed left some customers furious.

‘Absolute debacle … I am so bloody annoyed,’ one user wrote.

‘System is woefully under powered. Should have been able to process thousands simultaneously,’ another added.

However not everyone was angry with the resort for the problem.

‘I don’t think people should be angry with Thredbo resort, they are doing their best in these strange times,’ one user wrote.

Customers were assured this was only the first wave of passes and there would be more to come.

The first round tickets are for dates between June 22 and September 13, with the next round of tickets to cover dates up to October 5.
