An online petition calling for the closure of Tennessee haunted house is gaining traction, claiming that the ‘extreme haunt’ is actually a ‘torture chamber under disguise.’

The petition ‘Shut down McKamey Manor’ aimed at the Summertown destination has gained more than 77,000 signatures since it was created by Frank Towery.

‘They do screenings to find the weakest, most easily manipulated people to do the “haunt”, he explained in the petition. ‘If Russ doesn’t think you’re easily manipulated, you aren’t allowed to go.’

Russ McKamey, who facilitates the haunted attraction, claims that the tour is based on ‘personal fear’ and lasts approximately 10 hours.

‘This can be an aggressive experience, and our actors will come in contact with you,’ the haunted house’s website states. ‘You cannot in any way return the contact.

They later add: If things become too much, you can always quit… if we let you.’

Potential visitors have to fill out a 40-page waiver in order to go through – a process that can take up to four hours.

A fortunate person who manages to complete the haunted mansion will receive $20,000.  So far, no one has won the challenge.

In the petition, Towery makes mention of the ‘loopholes’ McKamey uses to ‘get out of being arrested.’

‘Previously no safe word was allowed, he changed that but there’s been reports that the torture continues even when people repeat their safeword for several minutes,’ Towery claimed. ‘One man was tortured so badly he passed out multiple times, workers only stopped because they thought they had killed him.’

Towery called the destination a ‘shame to all haunted houses’ adding that McKamey uses his waiver to enact violence because he technically does not make people ‘pay’ for the experience.

‘It’s literally just a kidnapping & torture house,’ the petition concludes. ‘Some people have had to seek professional psychiatric help and medical care for extensive injuries.

‘I propose that all locations where this is happening be shut down immediately.’
