More than 80 years after its birth, Jeep is going fully electric, with first battery-powered model launched next year

It began life as an all-American military vehicle before becoming an icon of recreational off-roading.

But more than 80 years after its birth, Jeep is going fully electric, with the first battery-powered model launched next year.

The news was broken by Carlos Tavares, head of Jeep’s parent conglomerate Stellantis as he also published the first photos of the, as yet unnamed, model.

Going green: Stellantis confirmed it will sell only electric vehicles in Europe by 2026 and will offer more than 75 electric vehicles by the end of the decade

He said: ‘Electrification will amplify Jeep’s core attributes.’

The newcomer is expected to sit below the current Renegade and has the familiar seven-bar grille and chunky styling.

Last year Jeep unveiled an all-electric concept Wrangler called Magneto EV.

Stellantis confirmed it will sell only electric vehicles in Europe by 2026 and will offer more than 75 electric vehicles by the end of the decade.
