A Pennsylvania woman who gave birth in a restroom at her work and left the baby boy partially submerged in the toilet has pleaded guilty to felony child endangerment.

Emmanuella Osei had denied her pregnancy to her friends, family and co-workers.

She left behind a two-year-old daughter in Ghana when she moved to the US to live with her uncle last May.

The 23-year-old entered her plea in front of Judge Margaret C. Miller during a court hearing Tuesday.

Emmanuella Osei, 23, gave birth in a restroom at her Pennsylvania job in January. Osei faces up to 10 years in prison on the second-degree felony charge when she’s sentenced later this year after pleading guilty Tuesday

The Lancaster District Attorney’s office says Osei was working at a group home on Parkside Lane in Warwick Township January 16 when she told colleagues she felt ill.

After asking her supervisor for to relieve her she went to a restroom and phoned her manager, asking them to call 911.

Police say she never mentioned that she’d given birth but when they entered the restroom they found what appeared to be an umbilical cord.

Northern Lancaster County Regional police officers noted the door was partially open and she was surrounded by a large amount of blood.

They performed CPR on the newborn who was cold and unresponsive and believed to have been submerged for 10 to 15 minutes.

Osei didn’t attempt to help save the baby’s life.

The baby was hospitalized in critical condition but has since recovered.

He was placed in a foster home.

‘The quick thinking and actions of Corporal Ochs almost certainly saved this child’s life,’ District Attorney Craig Stedman said. ‘This is a reminder of how much our men and women in uniform do for us.’

At the time of her law enforcement interview Osei admitted having visited the emergency room on January 4.

Osei remained locked up at Lancaster County Prison without bail after her arrest at Reading hospital in January.

She was not given bond because she could flee to Ghana where police said.

The Reading woman faces up to 10 years in prison on the second-degree felony charge when she’s sentenced later this year after a background investigation.
