A mother has been stabbed five times in a random attack when she got up to get a cup of water in the early hours of Christmas morning.
The 23-year-old was in her Cardiff home, near Newcastle, when she woke at 4.25am and was grabbed from behind by an unknown man, police said.
The man allegedly pulled a knife and repeatedly stabbed her in the back before fleeing the house on Cypress street.

Ambulances rushed to the house and paramedics treated the woman before she was taken to John Hunter Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The woman’s daughters, aged five and nine, were home at the time of the attack as well as the woman’s mother, The Daily Telegraph reported.
Police said it appeared the man entered the house through a rear window.
A neighbour described the young mother as friendly and said she had not lived in the street for long.
‘She seems nice, she has two little girls,’ she said.
‘My grandkids have played with her kids, she has always waved to me, she seems quite pleasant.
‘She has only lived here for four or five months.’
The man is described as being of Caucasian appearance with a slim build and closely shaved dark hair. He was wearing a hooded jumper and possibly gloves.
