A young mother is fighting for her life after she was stabbed and beaten in a ‘horrific’ 4am attack at her home in Ireland.

Nadine Lott was attacked by a knifeman in the early hours of Saturday morning while her six-year-old daughter was asleep.

The attacker left her with ‘serious injuries’ before fleeing the apartment in Arklow and crashing a car more than 20 miles away, it is believed.

Irish police say they have a ‘definite line of enquiry’ and a man in his 30s was arrested on Saturday night.

Ms Lott, 30, was attacked shortly after 4am when she was beaten, stabbed multiple times and left in a ‘critical condition’, police said.

According to the Irish Independent, the suspect was ‘known to her’ and launched the frenzied attack while Ms Lott’s six-year-old daughter was asleep.

In the two days since the attack, the victim’s friends have lit candles for her and said they were ‘praying for Nadine’.

‘Absolutely heartbreaking, keep fighting Nadine, everyone is praying for you and your family,’ said one friend.

Another said: ‘This is the most horrific thing. Praying for you Nadine and all your loved ones.’

Irish lawmaker Simon Harris called it a ‘horrific’ attack and added: ‘I know I speak for our entire community when I say our thoughts are with this woman as we all hope and pray for her recovery.’

Ireland’s Garda police said Ms Lott had been taken to hospital with ‘serious injuries’, saying they had a ‘definite line of enquiry’.

On Saturday evening they said a man in his 30s had been arrested and was being held at a police station in Wicklow.

Detectives are also urging witnesses on the road to come forward with dashcam footage that could show the attacker making his escape.
