Mother and boyfriend are arrested in Atlanta over death of 10-month-old boy after autopsy reveals the baby had suffered a fractured skull and ribs

A mother and her boyfriend have been arrested over the death of her 10-month-old child.  

Baby boy Amir Vega was rushed to hospital after someone alerted emergency services to a baby with breathing difficulties on Monday, but he died soon after. 

Police were called out to an apartment on Beaver Ruin Road in Norcross to find the child in a critical condition at around 4.40am.

Boyfriend Jahlin Corey, 27, has been charged with two counts of Felony Murder, one count of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Aggravated Battery

The child was admitted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta hospital but paramedics were unable to save him and he died. 

The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the body and officers secured a search warrant for the home. 

Injuries were observed on the baby’s body and an autopsy revealed Jahlin had suffered from a fractured skull, fractured ribs, and intestinal bleeding.

Jahlin Corey and Dennisa Vega-Rivera were confronted about the autopsy results. 

According to Gwinnett County police, their explanations were inconsistent with the findings, and they were both arrested. 

Dennisa Vega-Rivera, 27 has been charged with second-degree child cruelty, while boyfriend Jahlin Corey, 27, has been charged with two counts of Felony Murder, one count of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Aggravated Battery. 

They are currently booked at the Gwinnett County Jail with no bonds.
