This is the heartbreaking moment a mother bear was run over by a train while saving her cubs who had wandered onto the tracks.

Train drivers filmed the bear and her cubs moving along the tracks in the Sakha Republic of north-eastern Russia.

It’s clear that the train will not be able to stop in time and one of the drivers can be heard shouting: ‘Get out of the railroad with your little ones, you f****** fool!’

The train driver then speeds up and blares the train’s horn in a bid to scare the cubs away.

But instead of running away, the two cubs start running down the tracks.

As their mother turns and charges straight towards the train to protect her cubs before turning and fleeing.

The two cubs are seen dashing to the side just in time and go down the side of the embankment before fleeing into the forest.

But the mother bear was unable to avoid the oncoming train and is seen being run over and apparently killed.

‘Did the mother go away?’ one of the men is heard asking.

Another replied: ‘The mother stayed, yeah’.

It is unlikely the cubs will now survive as they are too small to fend for themselves, local media reported.
