A young mother is demanding that staff at a childcare centre apologise to her after her baby son suffered nasty head injuries.

Darlene Cox noticed her one-year-old son Xavier had a big graze on his forehead when she picked him and his four-year-old sister up from a childcare centre in Perth on Monday.

Ms Cox claims she was originally told her son had been injured as a result of falling over, but then a carer said she had been holding two children when she dropped him.

‘I hadn’t had a phone call or anything… I said what’s happened to my baby?’ Ms Cox told Nine News.

‘[I was] extremely shocked. I said he looked like he’d fallen from a motorbike and scraped his face along the road.’

Ms Cox said after she spoke to her daughter the full story of what happened to Xavier became clear.

‘The lady said ”I’m really sorry, I was nursing [him] on a chair… some other girls called me and I’ve lost concentration and I’ve accidentally dropped him”,’ Ms Cox said.

Ms Cox claims she was never notified of her son’s injuries and only found out about them when she came to pick him up.

‘My point is she’s qualified to work with babies… you just don’t drop a baby when someone calls your name,’ she said.

Ms Cox posted photos to Facebook showing her son’s severely grazed face.

‘I’m so heartbroken for my baby honestly there is just no justifying this. I’m so so upset,’ she wrote alongside the photos.

‘I have sat for hours thinking how this reason is even possible as honestly who drops a baby just because someone called their name, it don’t (sic) make sense.’

She has demanded that the childcare centre apologise to her for allowing her son to be injured.

A Department of Communities spokesperson said they have been notified of the incident and are investigating.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the childcare centre for comment.
