One user commented that the mother-in-law’s display was ‘beyond disturbing’, while others advised the couple to move ‘far far away from the clutches of his mother’.

‘Oh lord please grant this DIL (daughter-in-law) and DH (darling husband) the serenity to move far, far away from the clutches of this mother’, the baffled Reddit user wrote.

Others shared that they had similar photographs from their own weddings, with one Redditor revealing she has a picture of her mother-in-law in an identical pose.

She revealed: ‘LOL… I have a picture of my MiL doing the exact same death grip on my DH on our wedding day! I suspect emotion got the better of her though in our case.

‘She has her moments (don’t we all) but DH has always been the keeper of firm boundaries.’
