A 40-year-old mother has been stabbed to death with a screwdriver in her New York apartment while her two young children were sleeping.
Luz Perez was found with puncture wounds in her head and neck at her home in the Bronx when police responded to a 911 call at about 8am on Sunday.
Perez was unconscious when officers arrived and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
She was believed to have been found by her two children – a five-year-old boy and two-year-old girl.

The children alerted someone coming into the building to the situation by shouting out the window.
That person called 911, law enforcement sources told 1010 WINS radio.
Perez’s adult children said their mother had a protective order against her estranged husband.
The estranged husband is the father of the two young children who were inside the apartment at the time.
Her older children said there was an incident two weeks ago where Perez’s estranged husband had burned her eye with a cigarette.
Perez was unconscious when officers arrived and she was pronounced dead at the scene
Investigators could be seen coming to and from Perez’s apartment in the Bronx throughout the day
Police said they are still investigating and the medical examiner would determine the cause of death
There was also believed to have been several other domestic violence incidents that involved the former couple.
Police said the two young children were taken to hospital to be evaluated.
No one had been arrested over Perez’s murder as of Sunday night.
Investigators could be seen coming to and from Perez’s apartment throughout the day.
Police said they are still investigating and the medical examiner would determine the cause of death.
